Happy Chickens

Its February 17th,

In Vermont,

Near the Mountains,

'Nuff said.

Time to actually get this stupid thing started.

Ok,

I have been squatting on this blogger title for about two years now. I guess it is time to actually do something with it. Lets start with a little background....

My wife, daughter, and I live on a small half acre lot in Middlebury, VT which we have transformed over the last few years into a homestead of sorts. We have laying hens, meat birds, a hell of a large garden, and also a large area devoted to the processing of firewood. We also have two dogs and three cats, who actually don't produce anything except a wallet slightly less full of cash.

My basis for starting this up is to share our experiences with other folks who might be interested in what we are doing and how we are doing it. It seem that there are a number of startup and small scale farmers/homesteaders leaping in, and hopefully they will find this a useful repository of information and idea that they can use.

Lets see where we go from here......

Cold Snap, Son of a B**ch

I talked to my dad yesterday, and he said it got down to -27 in the valley two nights ago, -37 when he hit the ledges, and man do I believe it. Bone chilling, pipe freezing cold. Fortunetly the dogs cats, chickens, etc. all seem to be fairing well.
